World shares up, yen slips after G20 accepts Japan stimulus

By Richard Hubbard

LONDON (Reuters) - The Japanese yen weakened toward 100 to the dollar on Monday and shares rose after the G20 accepted Japan's bold stimulus policies, helping to counter the gloom over the global growth outlook.

U.S. stock index futures also pointed to a higher open on Wall Street, where the focus is on quarterly corporate results and whether these suggest further weakness ahead.

In its communique after a two-day meeting, the G20 avoided any direct criticism of Japan's policies and appeared to accept the need to reflate the world's third largest economy as part of efforts to invigorate a shaky global economic recovery.

Major world central banks have been holding interest rates at rock-bottom levels since 2008 while pumping over $6 trillion into their banking systems through loans and asset-purchase operations with only modest success so far.

"The real issue of deflation in Japan has to be tackled before we can have a genuine global recovery," said James Bevan, chief investment Officer at CCLA Investment Management.

The G20's actions removed any remaining obstacles to further yen weakness, setting up a test of the symbolic 100 yen to the dollar level and boosting demand for Japanese stocks.

"Japan not only escaped criticism, but on the contrary won praise as a country that was fulfilling its global obligations," said Marshall Gittler, head of global FX strategy at IronFX.

"That is in effect the green light for the BOJ's easing, which we expect will push USD/JPY through the magic 100 number in the not-too-distant future - perhaps as early as today."

The dollar was at 99.75 yen, off an intraday high of 99.90 and just below a four-year peak of 99.95 hit on April 11.

The euro also rose against the yen, reaching 130.70 from around 129.98 late on Friday, near a three-year peak of 131.10 set earlier this month.

Against the dollar, the euro eased slightly to $1.3040 after touching a session high of $1.3130 on Friday. The euro, which failed to break above $1.32 recently, has been stuck in a $1.30/32 range for the past week.

ITALIAN RESOLUTION

European stock markets were on course for a second straight daily gain, helped up by a jump in Italy's blue-chip index after the country's long-running political crisis moved a step closer to resolution.

Milan's FTSE MIB index gained as much as 2 percent on hopes the re-election of Italy's 87-year old president Giorgio Napolitano would see a new government emerge within days, ending two months of political stalemate.

The broad FTSEurofirst 300 index was up 0.8 percent at 1,162 points at midday, while Paris's CAC-40 and Frankfurt's DAX were about 0.75 percent higher.

MSCI's world equity index gained 0.25 percent, in part due to the better tone seen earlier in Asia when Japan's Nikkei hit its highest level in five years as the yen weakened after the G20 statement.

In the debt market Italian 10-year bond yields dropped to near their lowest levels in two years at 4.08 percent in response to the political resolution, while safe-haven equivalent German bonds were steady at 1.24 percent.

Traders had not expected a big move in German bonds as the market is awaiting key surveys on European purchasing managers' activity in April, due on Tuesday. These are likely to show the euro zone remains mired in recession, increasing the chance of a rate cut by the European Central bank.

COMMODITIES SHAKY

In the commodity markets gold rebounded from its sharp sell-off last week, though sentiment remained shaky after the precious metal posted its biggest-ever daily loss in dollar terms last Monday.

The spot gold price rose more than 2 percent at one point to a high of $1,436.70 an ounce, well above the two-year low of $1,321.35 touched last week.

U.S. gold futures hit a high of 1,434.50 an ounce, up 2.8 percent from the previous close of 1,395.60.

Oil also rebounded, extending its gains into a third day as low prices brought buyers back into the market following sharp drops earlier in the month due to the worries about the growth outlook and its impact on demand.

Brent has lost 10 percent since the start of April as growth in the United States and China - the world's two largest oil consumers - slowed while recession in Europe deepened.

June Brent crude rose $1 a barrel to $100.65, while U.S. crude for June delivery gained 65 cents to $88.65 a barrel after a 3.6 percent loss last week.

"This is more bargain-hunting than anything else. People are getting back in the market, but that may not be sustained depending on the (economic) data this week," said Simon Wardell, an analyst at Global Insight.

Home and health devices controlled by apps on the rise

By Natasha Baker

TORONTO (Reuters) - Tired of checking the washing machine to see if a cycle has completed, or worrying that the lights were left on at home? Apps are increasingly helping people monitor and control objects remotely on their mobile devices.

From Internet-connected washing machines and smart refrigerators to bathroom scales, gadgets that connect to the Internet are on the rise in homes, and apps are the means to monitor and control them.

By 2022, the average household with two teenage children will own roughly 50 Internet-connected devices, up from approximately 10 today, according to estimates by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. This trend has been dubbed the "Internet of Things".

" are the people end of the Internet of things," said Stephen Prentice, vice president and fellow at research advisory firm Gartner.

"On one hand you've got all these devices giving out information, and on the other you have people accessing them increasingly through their tablets or mobile phones."

Home control is a popular use of the technology. A washer and dryer produced by Samsung, for instance, can be remotely controlled with an Android app to start and stop the machine, and control factors like temperature. Users can even get notifications when a load is finished.

Overhead lights called Philips Hue can be controlled with the accompanying iPhone or Android app to switch them on and off remotely, set timers, and change mood lighting.

Temperature in the home can be controlled remotely with Nest Mobile for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android, while air quality can be measured with Netatmo, a personal weather station and air quality monitor. With the iPhone or Android app, users can view information on indoor air quality, such as the level of carbon dioxide and humidity in the room, and the app suggests ideal times to ventilate.

There's even an app and gadget for plant owners. Koubachi, a plant sensor placed in the soil of a potted plant, connects to an iPhone app to send notifications when it needs watering, misting, sun or shade.

"The diversity of these devices is huge," said Prentice.

"The vast majority of the future devices of this type don't exist today -- they're new things. If you can measure it, then someone is going to have a device to do that and someone will find a use for that data," he said.

Apps and gadgets are also playing a role in monitoring and tracking health.

For weight tracking, the Withings Health Mate app for iPhone and Android automatically tracks weight by connecting to one of Paris-based company Withings' smart bathroom scales. A similar app for babies, Withings Baby Companion app for iPhone, tracks a baby's weight and compares it to others the same age.

Those who want to improve their posture can turn to the LUMOback, a device worn around the waist that connects to an iPhone app that notifies users when they're slumping, and track their posture over time.

To track calories burned, distance traveled or steps taken, there are a flurry of options available, including wristbands like the Nike+ FuelBand and Larklife, which connect to iPhone apps, and the Jawbone UP and Fitbit One, which connect to iPhone and Android apps.

However, with this new technology on the rise, Prentice is concerned that privacy laws may not yet account for the collection of personal data that these gadgets and apps may have access to, such as location.

"It's a bit of a wild west out there," said Prentice. "The regulatory environment just hasn't caught up with the technology," he said.

"At the moment it's a case of buyer beware."

Thatcher funeral to be held April 17

LONDON (AP) ? Queen Elizabeth II will be among the mourners at the funeral of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on April 17, officials announced Tuesday.

Buckingham Palace said the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, would attend the ceremony at St. Paul's Cathedral, which is expected to draw dignitaries from around the world.

The only other prime minister whose funeral the monarch has attended was that of Britain's World War II leader, Winston Churchill, in 1965.

Churchill was the last British leader to receive a state funeral, also at St. Paul's. Thatcher's service, a ceremonial funeral with full military honors, is not officially a state funeral, which requires a vote in Parliament.

But the ceremony features the same level of pomp and honor afforded Princess Diana and the Queen Mother Elizabeth.

Thatcher's coffin will lie overnight at the Houses of Parliament ahead of the funeral, before being taken by hearse to the church of St. Clement Danes and then, on a horse-drawn gun carriage, to the 17th-century cathedral along a route lined by military personnel.

The televised funeral will be followed by a private cremation.

Early Tuesday, undertakers removed Thatcher's body from London's Ritz Hotel where she died Monday at the age of 87. A van carrying Thatcher's casket left the hotel for an undisclosed location, where it will remain during preparations for the funeral.

    Hi everyone,

I have been searching around, but could not find any good examples, so I am bringing my question here. My program gathers 2 longitude/latitude coordinates and calculates the distance between them. So I have one function that converts the user-entered coordinates into radian form:

  double radianCoord( double coord, string d) { 	double answer = 0; 	long double rad = .0174532925;  	if (d == "W" || d == "S")          //if statement accounts for west and south coordinates being negative 	{ 		answer = coord * rad * -1; 		return answer; 	} 		 	answer = coord * rad;  	return answer; }

And then with those new radian values, I have a second function that takes those values, and applies the distance formula to them:

double coordDistance(double x, double x2, double y, double y2) { 	double coordx = 0; 	double coordy = 0; 	double coordx2 = 0; 	double coordy2 = 0; 	string dx; 	string dx2; 	string dy; 	string dy2; 	double distance; 	double distFormula; 	const double WI = 3956.575;   	radianCoord(coordx, dx); 	radianCoord(coordx2, dx2); 	radianCoord(coordy, dy); 	radianCoord(coordy2, dy2);  	distFormula = sqrt(((x2-x) * (x2-x)) + ((y2-y) * (y2-y))); 	distance = distFormula * WI;  	return distance;	 }

I am getting a very large number (over 9,000 mi), and for the test coordinates I am using, I should only get a distance of 170 mi. I understand functions moderately well, as I have used them in other languages; however, having two functions work together seems to be the issue I am having. Clarification would be most appreciated!

All the variables that you pass to radianCoord are either 0 or empty strings. You also don't do anything with the return values of either of your calls to radianCoord.

The reason you're getting wrong results is that you don't convert your arguments to radians before use them in your formula. You should be calling radianCoord on your arguments (not on unrelated variables that are always 0) and then you should store the results of those calls and use those in your formula.

I built radianCoord first, and it works perfectly fine. No variables being 0 or empty strings. For example, if I use
    (44.232 N 88.416 W) and (41.879 N 87.636 W), I get answers of (.771994, -1.54315) and (.730926, -1.52954). These are both correct.
coordDistance should be taking those two new radian coordinates and finding the distance between them, but it doesn't.
This is the whole program if you are confused.

  #include<iostream> #include<string> #include<cmath> #include<sstream> #include<iomanip>  using namespace std; using std::getline;  double radianCoord( double coord, string d); double coordDistance(double x, double x2, double y, double y2);  int main() { 	//Declare variables 	double coordx = 0;    //first coordinate N_S degree 	double coordx2 = 0;   //first coordinate E_W degree 	double coordy = 0;    //second coordinate N_S degree 	double coordy2 = 0;   //second coordinate E_W degree 	string dx;            //first coordinate N_S direction 	string dx2;           //first coordinate E_W direction 	string dy;            //second coordinate N_S direction 	string dy2;           //second coordinate E_W direction 	double coord = 0;     //radianCoord degree variable 	string d;             //radianCoord string variable 	 	//Get input 	cout << "This program firsts asks for a coordinate in degrees, followed by a second question asking the direction." << endl; 	cout << "Enter the first location's N/S coordinates: "; 	cin >> coordx; 	cout << "and its direction: "; 	cin >> dx; 	cout << "Enter the first location's E/W coordinates: "; 	cin >> coordx2; 	cout << "and its direction: "; 	cin >> dx2; 	//cout << endl; 	cout << "Enter the second location's N/S coordinates: "; 	cin >> coordy; 	cout << "and its direction: "; 	cin >> dy; 	cout << "Enter the second location's E/W coordinates: "; 	cin >> coordy2; 	cout << "and its direction: "; 	cin >> dy2;  	cout << radianCoord(coordx, dx) << endl;     //these four lines correctly display the radian values 	cout << radianCoord(coordx2, dx2) << endl; 	cout << radianCoord(coordy, dy) << endl; 	cout << radianCoord(coordy2, dy2) << endl;  	cout << coordDistance(coordx, coordy, coordx2, coordy2);   //displays a very incorrect distance  	cin.get(); 	cin.get(); 	 	//Exit program 	return 0; }  double radianCoord( double coord, string d) { 	double answer = 0; 	long double rad = .0174532925;  	if (d == "W" || d == "S")          //west and south values carry a negative with them 	{ 		answer = coord * rad * -1; 		return answer; 	} 		 	answer = coord * rad;  	return answer; }  double coordDistance(double x, double x2, double y, double y2) { 	double coordx = 0; 	double coordy = 0; 	double coordx2 = 0; 	double coordy2 = 0; 	string dx; 	string dx2; 	string dy; 	string dy2; 	double distance; 	double distFormula; 	const double WI = 3956.575;   	radianCoord(coordx, dx); 	radianCoord(coordx2, dx2); 	radianCoord(coordy, dy); 	radianCoord(coordy2, dy2);  	distFormula = sqrt(((x2-x) * (x2-x)) + ((y2-y) * (y2-y))); 	distance = distFormula * WI;  	return distance;	 }

Pay attention to what Sepp2k is telling you. Look at lines 92 - 93 of your code in post 3. They do nothing. Sure, they call the function, but they don't do anything with its results. Read up on functions.

    C. African Republic council to pick interim leader

BANGUI, Central African Republic (AP) ? Central African Republic's self-appointed leader on Saturday announced the creation of a new council that will choose an interim president, a move aimed at placating the international community after he seized power by force two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the government reduced the hours of a curfew in place since the government's overthrow, even as gunfire crackled across the city of 700,000 after dark each night.

Michel Djotodia issued a presidential order setting up the council to lead a transitional government until elections can be held within 18 months. The announcement follows condemnation from the United States, which has failed to recognize his presidency.

Djotodia initially said he would rule until 2016, though later shortened the timeframe at the urging of heads of state from neighboring countries.

"The high council of transition will be tasked with electing a president of the republic, a head of state with a mandate of 18 months," Djotodia said in the edict.

The formation of the transition government though could further cement Djotodia's leadership as he is not barred from being among the candidates for the interim presidency.

"He is not excluded so I don't know why he couldn't run," Information Minister Christophe Gazam Betty said.

In December, Djotodia's fighters first began threatening to overthrow longtime President Francois Bozize, who himself seized power after a rebellion a decade ago.

Bozize and the rebels known as Seleka signed a peace accord in January to create a unity government along with the political opposition, though that deal came down amid accusations of mistrust and broken promises.

The rebels advanced on the capital on March 23, and Bozize fled into exile the following day as fighters took over the presidential palace.

The U.S. later said that the only "legitimate" leader in Central African Republic is the prime minister, an opposition figure appointed to the post as part of the January deal.

The body tasked with choosing an interim president will include nearly 100 participants, 10 of whom will come from Djotodia's Seleka alliance. Another six slots are going to the opposition, while nine seats are being given to Bozize allies.

It was not immediately clear how quickly the participants would choose a transitional leader, though the establishment of a selection process appears aimed at legitimizing and solidifying Djotodia's credentials as president.

Central African Republic has been wracked by a series of coups and rebellions since its independence from France in 1960. The country is rich in diamonds, gold and uranium through the chronic instability and lack of infrastructure has kept many foreign investors from working in the country.

Looters attacked the capital in the aftermath of Djotodia's ascension to power, targeting not only homes and businesses but also aid groups. A curfew remains in effect from midnight until 4 a.m., after two weeks of restricting people to their homes by 9 p.m.

FBI investigating possible extortion at Rutgers

Eric Murdock, the Rutgers employee who provided video of ex-coach Mike Rice verbally and physically abusing basketball players, may have tried to extort the university before releasing the video.

    By Geoff Mulvihill,?Associated Press / April 7, 2013

Eric Murdock speaks during a news conference in East Hanover, N.J., Friday. Murdock, a former Rutgers empoyee who made public the video that led to the basketball coach's dismissal and athletic director's resignation, has filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the university. The FBI is investigating whether Murdock potentially tried to extort the university.

A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Sunday that investigators are interested in Eric Murdock, who left his job as the men's basketball program's player development director last year and later provided the video to university officials and ESPN.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the inquiry has not been announced. The investigation was first reported by The New York Times.

A spokeswoman for the FBI's Newark office said the agency would not say whether there is an investigation. Murdock's lawyer did not return a call to the AP on Sunday. A Rutgers spokesman referred questions to the FBI.

A December letter from Murdock's lawyer to a lawyer representing Rutgers requested $950,000 to settle employment issues and said that if the university did not agree by Jan. 4, Murdock was prepared to file a lawsuit. The letter was obtained last week by the AP and other media outlets.

No settlement has been made. The video became public last week, and Murdock on Friday filed a lawsuit against the university, contending he was fired because he was a whistleblower trying to bring to light Rice's behavior.

The video's release last week set off a chain reaction that led to Rice's firing and the resignations of athletic director Tim Pernetti, the university's top in-house lawyer and an assistant basketball coach. Some critics want the university's president, Robert Barchi, to resign.

At a news conference last week, Barchi said the firing and resignations likely never would have happened unless Murdock provided the video to ESPN. Barchi said he did not see the video himself until after it had been made public.

Murdock, a New Jersey native who played for seven NBA teams from 1991 to 2000, was on the initial staff Rice assembled when he became the Rutgers coach in 2010. He left the team last year, though there are conflicting stories about the circumstances.

Murdock has said Rice fired him after he skipped a session of Rice's summer basketball camp, but has said he was targeted because he had spoken with others about Rice's conduct at practice. The university found in a report that Murdock was not actually fired and that he could have continued working at the school.

After Murdock left, he spoke with university officials about his allegations against Rice. He also used an open public records request to obtain hundreds of hours of videos of basketball practice. It's not clear who shot the original footage, but it was edited into the half-hour video later given to the university that touched off a scandal last week.

The university report on Rice, which was completed in December but not made public until Friday, criticized the video provided by Murdock as taken many situations out of context. While the report found fault with Rice's behavior in several instances, it also said he did not create a hostile work environment, as Murdock had suggested.

The report also said that Murdock had claimed some violations of NCAA rules ? including that he and others in the program paid players ? but he did not provide evidence.

After a review, university officials agreed to suspend Rice without pay for three games, fine him $50,000, send him to anger-management counseling and monitor his behavior.

Barchi said when he first saw the video last week he immediately decided Rice could not continue as coach.

AP sports writer Tim Sullivan contributed to this report.

    Best Strategies for Internet Marketing

This is a guest post by?Priyanka Arora.

    internet marketing

Internet marketing doesn?t need any introduction. The use of Internet technology has revolutionized the way we conduct businesses. Business models have shifted from brick and mortar setups to online models where a complete business is run from websites. Marketing has changed too. From hanging hoarding and banners to selling products online. These days we come across expert internet marketers willing to sell business products in lieu for a commission or a fee. Whether you are a business owner or an internet marketer, you should be aware of time proven internet marketing strategies. The strategies are given below.

    (1) Sell Product with Freebies

Internet marketers swear by this method. In this, you sell a product and to make it attractive, the marketer offer freebies such as free domain name, free eBooks, free webinars and others. It helps to get more buyers. The best thing is that you do not need to create the freebies yourself. Scour online for useful eBooks available for free and offer it to your subscribers. Or, do a joint venture with another marketer to conduct a webinar. Lastly, spend $10 to get good domains, conduct a product giveaway and gift winner the domain name as well.

    (2) Email Marketing

Email marketing is considered to be one of the best ways to make money online. It is believed that ?money is in the list? and internet marketers spend months to make this list. Some popular ways to build email marketing lists is to offer a free eBook or content locking. Once the list is substantial, marketers send promotional emails to generate sales. Another way is to take advantage of solo ads. Here, the internet marketer asks someone else with a huge list to promote a product and in return, negotiate a mutually beneficial financial arrangement.

    (3) Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

In basic terms, SEO is a way to rank higher on search engines, primarily the Google search engine. There are both white-hat and black-hat techniques to do SEO, but genuine internet marketers will follow the first option. There is also on-page and off-page SEO to customize a website and bring more visitors.

    (4) Use Classified Websites

Classified websites are a free and ever useful way to do internet marketing. Assuming you want to sell some product or service, you can Google for a list of free classified websites, create your ad and send it out to the free ad classifieds. There is software like Ad Blaster which can automate the process but its best to do it manually, especially in high authority classified.

    (5) Social Media Promotion

The Internet audience descends on social media platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Evidently, it has become a popular source for internet marketing too. Marketers talk about products and services on social media and generate sales. Some examples would be customized Facebook pages often used for product promotion. You can download freebies by giving a ?Like? or use the Heyo.com tool to create a custom sales portal on the Facebook page!

    (6) Affiliate Marketing

I consider affiliate marketing to be an off-shoot of internet marketing. Here, you affiliate yourself with one or more manufacturer and work towards generating sales for the manufacturers. In return for generating sales, the manufacturer gives you a share per sale. Concept is easy, but implementing it is tough.

    (7) Blogging

Blogging is perhaps the most excessively used method of internet marketing. Thousands of blogs go live daily but only few survive to create a passive income out of the blog. Blogging gives good ROI if done the right way but there is no map to show you the ?right way?. The ?right way? to blog and market products comes with series of testing and experimentation.

There are more methods for internet marketing but if you are just starting out or have a little experience, consider using the six methods I have listed above. Research more on them online and start with a few. Be completely honest in your efforts. These methods are recommended because they work.

    Visualized: AT&T's network-boosting Small Cell

    Visualized AT&T Small Cell

WiFi used to be the only somewhat reliable way for a carrier to plug up holes in its network coverage. It's a tactic AT&T's used to great effect in many metropolitan areas where it offers wireless service. But short of acquiring more spectrum -- a costly and time-consuming process littered with legal roadblocks -- the operator's been exploring an alternative solution: small cells. Testing for these stopgap signal boosters (pictured above) has already been underway since late 2012, with a trial case study in Crystal Lake Park, MO that proved outdoor reception could improve by almost 100-percent. And that test site is just the start of a greater small cell rollout that should place over 40,000 of these units throughout AT&T's nationwide footprint by 2015. So if you're tethered to the operator's network and sick of spotty coverage, help is most definitely on the way.

ElectNext Raises $1.3M To Provide Contextual Political Data To News Sites

4217661984_fec1fcdf69_zIf knowledge is a door to information, data is the key. When you’re talking about politics and government, information is extremely important to those who are making decisions on who to vote for and what legislation to get behind or block. Today, a company called ElectNext has raised a seed round of $1.3M led by Brooklyn Bridge Ventures along with other strategic investors like Liberty City Ventures, Comcast Ventures, Digital News Ventures, Gabriel Investments, The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Investor?s Circle. When I spoke with ElectNext’s founder and CEO, Keya Dannenbaum, she explained ElectNext as something similar to our own CrunchBase, providing widgets full of data for publications to embed: “We have a comprehensive underlying database (on politicians on our case as opposed to companies in the CrunchBase analogy) from which we create data-driven content that lives inside, and gives relevant context to, political news.” Dannenbaum knows politics, as she’s worked on 18 political campaigns, including Hillary Clinton’s. ElectNext’s product, which pulls together political data from multiple sources and packages them together for news sites to embed, is something that Dannenbaum thinks is important for both voters and journalists. Most political data is stored in formats that aren’t accessible online, so ElectNext is working with national and state partners like The Sunlight Foundation, GovTrack and Follow The Money as well as open data-friendly cities to convert all of it. One of the cities, my hometown of Philadelphia, is a close partner. Embedded profiles will start appearing today on PBS NewsHour, The Philadelphia Inquirer, NBC Politics and a few others. The six launch partners represent 15M monthly unique visitors, Dannenbaum tell us. That’s not a bad start. I talked to Dannenbaum about how her experience makes ElectNext unique and how important this information is to unlock for constituents: TC: What did you learn during your years working on campaigns that led you to working ElectNext? Dannenbaum: Through my campaign experience, first in the 2008 Presidential and then at the hyper-local level, I got to observe firsthand how sharply levels of political knowledge and participation decline from the national to the neighborhood levels. Yet it’s our local representatives who make most of the decisions that affect our daily lives. So we’re all checking out precisely where it matters most, and I wanted to change that. TC: How does data help shape political campaigns and inform voters? Dannenbaum: In

[ Heroes is a short story I had written on a previous website, and thought for it to be a well-written story, so I published it here. ]

You are nothing to be fantasized about. You are a mortal, with flaws. You have pain and pleasure, given to you only with gratitude to be given back. You have no secret identity, your face isn't plastered on the cover of newspapers, drawing attention to all people. You aren't perfect, you aren't anything super or heroic for everyone to crave about. You aren't something served on a silver platter, something to be passed around and stared at with greed or envy. You are just a human. Sitting at a desk. In a grey little place. With a grey computer.

The town you live in is called New Hills, recently adopted by Mayor Timothy. He likes to be greedy, to grapple at money and coins, to smile with his few teeth. He is a terrible mayor. New Hills isn't very common to one's mind, as it isn't thought about from other people, nor is it recognized when a bunch of tourists pull away from that bending, cobbled lane in an aged taxi. Gaping with these large, annoying eyes.

The skies are mostly patterned with grey clouds, covering its blue hue. Rain comes down in a relentless sheet, pounding at the brick walls of buildings, of the glass covered in a dust. You wake up every morning to the damn rain, with the curtains pulled back because no light has an effort to come through that one, tiny glass space. You don't even have enough money to afford some special clothing embroidered with sparkles and that fake gems.

Why are these things even to be bothered about, anyway? No one cares that you can't wear those special boots all the people are exaggerating about, saying that they deliver the most softest comfort to the soles of your feet. You believe that they are just like any other boot. What's the difference?

These aren't important topics to rant about anyway. You should to back to your work. The papers too, don't forget the papers. The ink splattered across its surface like some party you hadn't attended. A party for throwing ink on paper. It would have been fun. All of the other parties were the focal point of alcoholic beverages. You don't favor alcohol. You can't forget the papers, because their you go again, thinking about all the other things.

New Hills is a weird place, with the brick walls, the dusty windows, the cobbled streets. It is like a London bistro, with out the incessant congestion of sweat from other people and the smell of elderly perfume. Cars rarely decorate the streets. Most people prefer travel by their own feet, or a bike. A bike that's rusted. No one can get anything decent in New Hills. Except Mayor Timothy, he needs everything.

You wish some hero would come. A hero, possibly, with some red cape, and a blue latex suit. To rescue you from work. Your gray work, the gray skies. Your graying personality, deemed useless by all the other popular people that crawl around. Greedy for passion and power. Mayor Timothy must be rubbing off on all of them.

So here is the major thing everyone wants to know, everyone wants to find out, because it affects them so damn much that they can't even put any effort into anything they wish to do. Work has ended, so you have left, you walk to your apartment in the rain, and sit at the foot of your bed. The television has some weird religious news topic on. You dislike them, because they waste your precious ranting time.

The people want to know, why are you so quiet? So alone, so uncomfortable with yourself, with the strange town you live amongst in this strange state. You rarely talk, no verbal command coming out of those chapped lips. You just sit. You just stare. You don't do anything except think or maybe mutter a few syllables once in a while.

Here is the plot twist, the answer, everyone is so expectant of. You are a normal human. No one thinks that. With a normal life. No one thinks that. You question yourself every time you say something, every movement, every action. Everybody thinks that. You developed yourself in a fantasy, an endless dream tormented with demons and that damn Mayor Timothy. You are still waiting for something so unnatural to give this person's life to become more decent? Let me add something, something vague and cute, to make everything sound like it is okay, because you are imperfect, since imperfect people deserve some respect.

You sit on the porch every morning, staring at the sun, because of your insomnia and depression and anxiety. You fear the demons will come once more, and your fantasies will end, because they run around squealing and screeching. Being their annoying little selves.

Southern Calif. man stages April Fool's plane joke

YUCAIPA, Calif. (AP) ? It's the plane crash that wasn't in Southern California.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/YQ8fyA ) a Yucaipa businessman staged an elaborate April Fool's joke on Monday.

Billy Cheesman Jr. used a forklift to arrange a small aircraft on the fence that runs in front of his equipment rental business, as if it had nosedived there.

He also strung yellow caution tape around to make it resemble a crash scene.

Cheesman says someone gave him the two-seat experimental plane and he's been trying to figure out what to do with it.

He notified the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department before he set up the prank at Redlands Yucaipa Rentals.
