Instagram adds Photo Page to web: new colors, user comments, not much else

instagram-photo-page-new-colors-user-comments

Instagram's been moving along briskly with its Android and iOS apps, but the hipster-tinter-photo-sharing-Facebook acquisition's web presence has been lagging behind in comparison. But there's good news now if you're desk-bound thanks to the new "Photo Page," which lets you log in, change your profile and add comments or likes to images. The other tweak is a fresh look for the site, matching the app with a blue, dare we say, Facebook-esque theme and larger images, no doubt to show off those mega-megapixel smartphone cameras. It's likely a first step in unifying its web offering and apps, and with a name like Photo Page, no one can accuse it of wasting that Facebook booty on marketing whizzes.

Unless addressed, geriatrician shortage may reach crisis proportions as aging population grows

NEW YORK, NY (June 29, 2012) One hundred forty-seven students from some of the nation's top medical schools will soon enter a unique program geared toward addressing the shortage of physicians specially trained to care for America's older adults a shortage that is expected to get far worse in coming years.

According to the American Geriatrics Society, despite rapid growth in the elderly population, the ratio of geriatricians (geriatric medicine physicians) to seniors will significantly decrease over the next few decades from one geriatrician for every 2,620 Americans age 75 and older today, to one geriatrician for every 3,798 older Americans in 2030. The American Federation for Aging Research's (AFAR's) Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) Program, an initiative funded through a private-public partnership, seeks to address this issue by exposing future physicians to geriatric medicine experiences early in their careers.

The MSTAR Program gives these gifted medical students the opportunity to participate in a summer of aging-related research, education, and clinical training at National Institute on Agingfunded training centers and at some of the nation's top-tier academic institutions. The short-term scholarships, which range from 8 to 12 weeks, provide students with monthly stipends of approximately $1,750. Fifty medical students are supported by private funding and will participate in the MSTAR Program at their home institutions this year, while 97 students will receive financial support through the National Institute on Aging and conduct their program at NIA's training centers.

Major funders of the MSTAR Program include MetLife Foundation, The John A. Hartford Foundation, and the National Institute on Aging (NIA). Several other funders provide additional support. Now in their third year of funding MSTAR, MetLife Foundation has committed $640,000 to date.

"MetLife Foundation is pleased to support this initiative to attract more students to enter geriatric training programs," said Dennis White, president and CEO of MetLife Foundation. "This support addresses a growing health problem of too few doctors to care for a rapidly aging population."

Geriatricians are medical doctors who are specially trained in assessing, diagnosing, and treating the problems that are especially common in people as they age. Board certified in internal or family medicine, these physicians have a minimum of one year of additional clinical training in geriatric medicine.

"Our program aims to introduce medical students to the field of geriatric medicine," said AFAR Executive Director Stephanie Lederman, EdM. "We hope this will encourage many of them to pursue long-term career paths in studying and treating age-related diseases and conditions."

Eighty-nine percent of MSTAR participants report that their summer experiences increased their sensitivity to the needs of older adults and their desire to include older adults in their practice. An evaluation of the MSTAR program showed that, of early program participants who completed their training and entered medical practice, 20 percent now practice geriatric medicine or aging-related specialty medicine.

"I would enthusiastically recommend this program to anyone regardless of their interest in becoming a geriatrician," says Sydney Harvey, a recent MSTAR graduate. "We will all be working with older adults in our careers, and it is important to understand their unique considerations in the clinical setting. I am so glad I was able to participate in the MSTAR program."

According to a recent poll by the John A. Hartford Foundation, large majorities of older Americans experience significant and troubling gaps in their primary care. Only seven percent of adults received all of the seven important primary care services that are standard and critical elements of geriatric assessment. Fifty-two percent reported receiving none or only one service, and 78 percent received fewer than half. These included such services as annual medication reviews, falls assessments, and depression screening.

Blue Jeans Network, a video conferencing company founded by a serial entrepreneur who has sold two companies to Cisco, is adding another $25 million to its coffers from NEA, Accel and Norwest Venture Partners.

Interestingly enough, quite of bit of that capital will be going toward a marketing campaign meant to woo enterprise customers away from other video conferencing providers. Such is the nature of enterprise-focused companies, which often needs a more marketing and sales-intensive strategy to acquire customers.

The company?s already got a billboard in San Francisco (pictured above) and the goal is to get more companies to switch from pure audio conferencing to video conferencing. Blue Jeans counts?Facebook, Match.com and Stanford among its clientele. Today?s round brings the company?s total funding to just shy of $50 million.

Paired with the funding today are a few product updates.?Blue Jeans recently launched a browser-based conferencing solution that?s inter-operable with everything from Skype to Google Hangouts, Cisco or Polycom. Then there are some minor feature releases like the ability to build customized log-in pages and single sign-on for employees.

The company recently released a new product meant to kill those expensive video conferencing units called MCUs or multipoint control units, that can cost north of $250,000. Blue Jeans? video-conferencing service starts at $299 per port (or per party involved in calls).

At Blue Jeans Network, their mission is to make video communications as easy and pervasive as audio communications, enabling more effective collaboration at work, at home, and on the road. Their cloud-based conferencing service enables people to connect with each other any time, any place, and from practically any device.

Grant Cardone: Fear of Public Speaking

Are you scared to speak in public? Do you have stage fright? I have been speaking to audiences since I was 25 years old. When I first started I was terrified. I don't know why I was scared but I was. Literally could not sleep the night before I had to speak to an audience. And it didn't matter whether it was a small group or a very large group. I found myself actually avoiding speaking to more than two people at a time.

One day I realized that this fear was holding myself back from my potential to get myself and my ideas known. I asked myself, "how can you ever be successful if you aren't willing to speak to people?" It was then that I committed overcoming this fear and learn how to speak to audiences with confidence and without fear immobilizing me.

Since that decision I have delivered over 2000 speaking engagements to entrepreneurs, small businesses and even Fortune 500 companies. This week I spoke to an unbelievable audience at Google headquarters in New York. What a great experience to be able to communicate to speak to a company that is so well recognized by the entire world.

Over the years I have learned from other great speakers like John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Bill Clinton, Guy Kawasaki, Harvey McKay, Steve Jobs, Jackie B. Cooper, Joel Osteen, Les Brown, John Maxwell, Seth Godin, Gary Vaynerchuk, Tony Robbins and others. Watching them inspired me to become more confident in my abilities.

Here are a few tips that you may find helpful for handling the fear of public speaking

1) Commit to overcoming the fear. The fear will not go away until 'it' is clear that you are committing to speaking in public. Speak as often as you can to as many different groups as you can. After 2000 speaking engagements I still experience some fear but it no longer prevents me from speaking because my commitment is greater than the fear. NY Times Best Selling author, Seth Godin, says, "My only tip is.... speak."

2) Own the Stage -
When you walk out on the stage or platform, own the stage; make it yours. Plant your feet firmly in one place and anchor in at that one place. Avoid moving around much in the beginning of your presentation so the audience can see that you are confident, grounded in who you are and your position.

3) Speak to the Everyone in the Room and Connect
Be sure that you are communicating beyond the first row and all the way to the back row and to the edges of the room, left and right. Your focus should be to connect to each individual in the room. The first two years I spoke I did so without a microphone forcing me to reach, connect with and project to everyone in the audience. "Everyone Communicates Few Connect", John Maxwell.

4) Open with Your Message -
Open with that thing you want the audience to remember. "I am here to show you how to double your sales. That's right, Double YOUR Sales." Make it very clear in the first one minute what the audience is going to get from your presentation. Make your opening statement bold, promising, inspiring and hopeful of massive gain. Chet Holmes, author of The Ultimate Sales Machine and partner with Tony Robbins says,: "Open strong. If you open strong, the audience will be patient for 20 minutes."

5) Pick a Topic That You are Confident -
Speak on subjects on which you are an authority, expert and have complete confidence. Use this as a way to gain altitude over your audience. Everyone has some angle or positioning that makes them the authority in a room with the most altitude. Use your expert positioning to grow your own confidence and to have your audience know that. The great sales expert, Harvey Mackay, says "The best way to sound like you know what you're talking about is to know what you're talking about."

6) Hammer Away at Your Opening Message -
Distill your message down to a few points and then repeatedly beat it to death. A big mistake is to try to cover too many things in one presentation. Make sure your audience walks away from your event with one message ringing violently in their heads. Simplify your message down to a a thing or two rather than many. Les Brown, says, "Read, study and over prepare."

7) Close Big -
Your closes should be compelling and inspiring providing your audience with a reason to be moved. Great speakers always bring a great close to their presentation. By this time the fear has subsided so be careful not to take the close for granted. Finish big!

Everyone I know experiences some level of fear when speaking in public. Don't think you have some disability - it's normal. Commit to speaking and the fear will subside. Then learn from other great speakers. Whether it is for a simple job interview, a presentation at your office, a sales presentation to one customer or many, to your church, community or school there is no getting away from the idea that at some time in your life you will be forced to speak in public.

The ability to speak confidently and comfortably in public is one of the keys to creating success in your life.

TMobile brings out new mobile data plans for the suits and ties, makes overage optional

T-Mobile just updated its prepaid data plans a month ago, and now it's the corporate crowd's turn for a shakeup. The new (and quite frankly daunting) array of primarily business-minded plans is based around whether or not you'd rather face throttling or overage fees if you push past a set cap. Overage Free plans for subsidized (Classic) and unsubsidized (Value) devices are largely self-explanatory and slow down that bandwidth cap-busting hotspot, modem or tablet until the next month. The High-speed plan range costs lower as a matter of course, but you'll be dinged to the order of two to 10 cents for every megabyte over the limit. That said, there's some bargains to be had versus other carriers, especially with the 5GB and 10GB plans. Provided you're happy with T-Mobile's coverage, it may be worth signing up to eke out a few extra dollars in savings every month.

'Done...for you big boy;' How emails nailed Barclays

By Steve Slater and Kirstin Ridley , Reuters

LONDON -- "Done ... for you big boy," read a message sent by a Barclays banker to one of the lender's traders, who had asked him to fix a key lending rate artificially low.

"Dude, I owe you big time! Come over one day after work and I'm opening a bottle of Bollinger," a trader from another firm emailed a banker at Barclays, showing his thanks for the rate set artificially low.

UK-based Barclays has agreed to pay $453 million in fines to UK and U.S. regulators to settle its part of an investigation into whether banks manipulated the London Interbank Lending Rate, know as Libor.

Investigators were helped by extensive emails and other messages about Libor, a set of benchmarks designed to indicate the rate at which banks estimate they are able to lend to each other. Libor is used to set corporate and personal borrowing rates worldwide.

Communications released by authorities on Wednesday showed Barclays traders calling each other "superstar" and with little concern for covering their tracks as they urged colleagues responsible for submitting Barclays' Libor rates to try and influence final prices.

Requests came in such as: "We need a really low 3m fix, it could potentially cost a fortune. Would really appreciate any help."

And: "Your annoying colleague again ... Would love to get a high one month. Also if poss a low three month ... if poss ... thanks."

Traders made their requests in person, via email and through electronic "chats" over an instant messaging system.

On a few occasions, some traders even made entries in electronic calendars to remind themselves what requests to make of Barclays' Libor submitters the next day.

One trader would shout across the desk to make sure other traders had no conflicting preference to ask the Libor submitters.

"The traders were barking orders like they were at a fast food drive-through and the submitters were so accommodating that they might as well have said, 'do you want fries with that'," said Bart Chilton, a commissioner at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which led the settlement agreement.

Some 257 requests were made to rate submitters from at least 14 Barclays derivatives traders over four years. Traders at other banks also tried to influence Barclays' rate, while Barclays' traders put pressure on the rates offered by others.

Most of the world's biggest banks are under investigation as regulators from Europe, North America and Japan attempt to prove banks rigged rates. Barclays is the first to settle.

"This is the way you pull off deals like this chicken, don't talk about it too much, 2 months of preparation... the trick is you do not do this alone ... this is between you and me but really don't tell ANYBODY," a Barclays trader told a trader at another bank.

Investigators said Barclays derivatives traders got the bank to submit inaccurate rates between 2005 and 2008 so they could profit. The bank also submitted artificially low rates from September 2007 to May 2009 to ease fears it faced funding problems during the financial crisis.

Judging by the messages, Barclays was not alone in having an interest in lowering their submitted rates during the crisis to avoid signaling to markets their distress.

On one occasion, a manager said if Barclays submitted its correct rate, "It's going to cause a @!$%# storm," and the bank submitted a lower rate.

But the bank's treasury staff were beginning to become uneasy. In late 2007, Barclays told the UK Financial Services Authority and the British Bankers' Association, the trade body under whose auspices Libor is set, of its concerns that rivals were setting rates too low.

Months later, a senior Barclays treasury manager called the BBA and warned them that rates were not accurate, but that Barclays was not the worst offender.

"We're clean, but we're dirty clean, rather than clean-clean," he said.

"No-one's clean-clean," the BBA representative responded.?

Alaska glacier wreckage is 1950s military plane

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) ? The wreckage of a military plane found this month on an Alaska glacier is that of an Air Force plane that crashed in 1952, killing all 52 people aboard, military officials said Wednesday.

Army Capt. Jamie Dobson said evidence found at the crash site correlates with the missing C-124A Globemaster, but the military is not eliminating other possibilities because much investigation still needs to be done.

Processing DNA samples from relatives of those on board the plane could take up to six years, Dobson said.

"We're still at the very beginning of this investigation," she said. "This is very close to the starting line, not the finish line."

The Alaska National Guard discovered the wreckage and possibly bones June 10 on Colony Glacier, about 40 miles east of Anchorage. The wreckage was spotted soon after the heavy transport plane vanished Nov. 22, 1952, with 41 passengers and 11 crew members, but it became buried in snow and likely churned beneath the surface of the glacier for decades, Dobson said.

"The ice gives up what it wants to give up when it wants to give it up," she said. "It's really in control."

The plane went down on a flight from McChord Air Force Base in Washington state.

An Associated Press report on Nov. 24, 1952, said the Globemaster was the third big Air Force transport plane to crash or vanish in Alaska that month and the sixth around the Pacific Rim.

Soon after the crash, a 12-member military team tried three times to make it to the site, but was thwarted by bad weather, said Tonja Anderson, whose grandfather Isaac Anderson was among those on board the doomed flight. The 41-year-old Tampa, Fla., woman has researched the crash for 12 years since her grandmother, now deceased, gave her details of the airman who died at age 21, leaving behind a young widow and 1 ?-year-old son.

"I'm overwhelmed," Anderson said Wednesday about the positive identification. It's something she has tried to long get from the military, she said, only to be told that recovering the remains from the plane's hidden grave was unfeasible and would be too expensive.

"If they can bring me one bone of my grandfather or his dog tag, that would be closure for me," she said.

Days after the Globemaster went down, a member of the Fairbanks Civil Air Patrol, along with a member of the 10th Air Rescue Squadron, landed at a glacier in the area and positively identified the wreckage as the Globemaster.

According to an AP account, the civil air patrol member was Terris Moore, who was president of the University of Alaska. After returning from the site, he told reporters that the plane "obviously was flying at full speed" when it hit Mount Gannett, sliding down the snow-covered cliffs, exploding and disintegrating over two or three acres.

Only the tail and flippers of the craft were intact, but the tail numbers were enough for an identification. Moore said blood was found on a piece of blanket and there was a "sickly-sweet smell of death."

The debris was discovered June 14 while Alaska National Guardsmen were flying a Blackhawk helicopter during a training mission near the glacier. The guardsmen flew over the area several times.

Federal aviation officials implemented temporary flight restrictions over the area while the military investigation was conducted.

An eight-man Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command arrived last week, military officials said. It completed its work Tuesday at the glacier.

The team recovered materials like a life-support system from the wreckage and possible bones from the glacier. The evidence was being taken to the command's lab in Hawaii for analysis.

'Twilight' Heads To 'Family Guy' And Comic-Con

Kellan Lutz is voicing a 'Family Guy' character, 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' is opening Comic-Con and more, in 'Twilight' Tuesday.
By Kara Warner

There is never a dull moment in the world of "Twilight." The fact that we dedicated fans still have a few months to wait before the release of "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" does not mean that our favorite subject and the actors associated with it are not making headlines elsewhere.

This week's "Twilight" Tuesday is dedicated to our favorite bits of "Twilight" news percolating around the Internets:

"Breaking Dawn - Part 2" To Open Comic-Con
As was expected, Summit announced that "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" will once again take San Diego Comic-Con by storm. The film will kick off the festivities in the convention center's massive Hall H as the very first panel on Thursday, July 12. As many of us remember fondly, Hall H was the site of the franchise's first-ever Comic-Con appearance back in 2008, when thousands of excited fans made the pilgrimage to San Diego to see the cast assembled together for the first time. No word yet on which castmembers will be making the trip to the Con, but because it's in support of their last "Twilight" movie, we're betting on seeing most, if not all, of our favorites.

Kellan Lutz Gets Animated
Kellan Lutz is lending his voice to Seth MacFarlane and the cast of "Family Guy." According to Entertainment Weekly, Lutz will appear on an upcoming episode as a love interest for Meg Griffin (voiced by Mila Kunis) as a hunky high school football player Meg fantasizes about. The show's executive producer Mark Hentemann told EW that although Meg convinces him to go on a date with her, Lutz's character has ulterior motives — an interest in one of the other Griffins. Lutz reportedly made a great impression on everyone when he recorded his part. "[He] got into the role and walked that line perfectly," Hentemann said. "He was great. He was very handsome."

Teaser Trailer Postmortem
Have you stopped watching that expertly crafted new "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" teaser trailer yet? Last week's preview not only featured the anticipated first look at several new vampires, but thanks to the enthusiasm and support from the franchise's millions of fans, the trailer broke the record for the most downloads (7 million!) in 24 hours.

Check out everything we've got on "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2."

Self Improvement | You Don't Need Permission to Do Great Things ...

By Lance Winslow -

?There are simply too many rules, laws, and regulations which prevent small business owners from going to the next step, expanding their business, getting a business loan, or hiring more employees. If we really want to deal with our unemployment situation, increase innovation, and get this economy firing on all cylinders again then we need to be thinking here ? so let?s go ahead and talk about that for a moment if we might.

The other day, someone contacted me at our think tank with a revolutionary business idea ? it was a new invention in the alternative energy sector. Now most of these eco-innovations aren?t really that efficient, and they are merely trying to capitalize on the environmental movement and trend. However this one was quite good, and yet this entrepreneur was so worried about all the licenses, rules, and where to hire a lawyer, accountant, and consultant or business coach to help him through the myriad or maze of prerequisites ? that he was literally afraid to start.

He was looking for someone to give him permission so that he can go out and create this new invention for the marketplace, sell it, and pursue his passion. The reality is you don?t need permission in the United States of America to go out and do great things. Unfortunately, far too many people have their brain stuck in a box, and they have been indoctrinated by authoritarian systems ? and that?s a real problem. Let me put it this way; you don?t need permission to go and do great things in this life, or pursue your happiness.

But, if you still believe you do, then I hereby give you permission to go out and do your life?s work with all the passion and vigor you can muster. What I?m saying is; it?s time to go out and do it, and figure out the rest as you go along. Yes, there will be some rules and regulations and hoops that you must jump through, and you do have to follow the law, but most importantly, you need to act, and get started. If you wait until everything is perfect, and you have all the permission you need, you?ll never do anything in your life.

Now wouldn?t that be a travesty? You know, sometimes you just got a get out there and get it done. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Hello, can I reserve the Waterbender on Team Avatar. Also, if you are a Waterbender, can you Blood Bend. And if you can Blood Bend, can you do it not on a full moon, and with your mind? Last is what does Relationship Status mean? Thank you.

If the water bender is taken then i'll ask if I can reserve the avatar...

Duranin battle poem from Tales of the past 3:
When shadow comes to claim our souls,
Some must rise - the light of old.

Names in stone, spirits of legend.
Deeds unknown, yet never forgotten.

These are the Duranin!

Of honor within and of fear without.
Remember them, when in hope you doubt.

Hi! I'm sorry, somebody already private messaged me and reserved the waterbender. Yes you can blood bend, and you don't have to do it on a full moon if you're a strong waterbender. Relationahip Status means if you're single or taken by another character. I'm sorry that it's been reserved. You can try one of the other characters who can tag along with Team Avatar.

Well, it's pretty much just like the TV Show, Avatar the Last Airbender. Except, instead of their characters you create your own. Right now a 100 Year War has started and the Avatar is the only one who can stop it. He is found, but he only knows the element of air and he has to learn the rest of the elements. Many people he meets will help him, many others will despise him. He must stay hidden and travel around the Four Nations to learn the elements along with his new friends who will help. His destiny is to defeat Fire Lord Ozai.

Fox Business Host Gerri Willis' Unfortunate Mispronunciation (VIDEO)

Whoops! Fox Business' Gerri Willis had some trouble pronouncing a Texas theme park name last week, which led to a somewhat unfortunate slip of the tongue.

While listing off the top five highest rated theme parks in the U.S., Willis quickly paused after she announced the park ranked in fourth place. "And number four?Shhhhitterbahn. No! Shooterbahn?" Willis said, before breaking down into hysterics. "We got that one wrong!"

After a moment, she smoothly announced, "It's Schlitterbahn, in Texas. Sorry you Texans out there. I got that all wrong."

England, Italy exceeding expectations

By ROB HARRIS

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 9:38 a.m. ET June 23, 2012

KRAKOW, Poland (AP) -Italy is restoring pride in a tarnished national game while England is shaking off past inhibitions.

The European Championship is turning out better than expected for the English and Italians, who meet on Sunday in the quarterfinals.

The Italians are providing a welcome distraction from another match-fixing scandal at home after setting out in the tournament under siege from fans - and the police.

England also entered Euro 2012 at a low ebb after a hastily appointed new coach was given the task of putting together a team which could just compete credibly.

But they've already managed to register a first competitive victory over Sweden and triumph over the host of a European Championship when they beat Ukraine to advance as group winners.

In Kiev on Sunday, England's task will be to chalk up a more significant first - beating a major footballing power in the knockout rounds of a tournament away from home soil.

Not surprisingly, coach Roy Hodgson believes that victory would give England "a bit of an extra glow.

"It would put one of those nasty statistics for a team of England's stature to rest," he said.

Previous knockout victories outside England have been restricted to the World Cups against Paraguay (1986), Belgium and Cameroon (1990), Denmark (2002) and Ecuador (2006).

England's last meeting with Italy in a tournament saw the hosts win the third-place match at the 1990 World Cup. Italy also defeated England 1-0 in the Euro 1980 group stage.

While England is battling the weight of history, the Azzurri are progressing at Euro 2012 despite Italian football being immersed in police investigations. It's not unfamiliar territory for the Italians, who won the 2006 World Cup after a domestic footballing scandal.

Defender Leonardo Bonucci remains in the squad despite being investigated for allegedly helping fix matches while he played for Bari in Serie B in 2009-10.

Keeping the Euro 2012 run going is helping to restore some pride in Italian football, though the side plays down the trouble back home.

"We don't really take it as extra motivation - this team always has great professionals and great players," midfielder Daniele De Rossi said. "It's just a characteristic that Italians carry. Overcoming difficulties is in our DNA."

Pride appears to have been restored in the England team for very different reasons.

Fabio Capello's sudden resignation in February threw the side's Euro 2012 plans into turmoil. But like Italy, the English progressed through the group stage unbeaten and even the public back home appears to be falling back in love with the team.

"There's definitely a spirit there," midfielder Scott Parker said. "People say spirit doesn't win you tournaments, but ... ultimately, that's our base. I'd like to think we have that base back."

"Trust me," he added. "It goes a very long way. You don't want to be surrounded by negativity, or reading things that aren't nice about yourselves or the team."

The team has been immersed in Italian influences since 2008 due to Capello.

And the man set to lead the Italian strike force is also very familiar to them: Manchester City's Mario Balotelli.

England players will also know just how easily the hotheaded striker is prone to losing his cool on the pitch. So will they try to rattle him?

"I'm too much the purist coach to go along that line ... I'm sure if he misbehaves they'll have a word in his ear," Hodgson said.

Wayne Rooney up front for England is every bit as prone to allowing his fiery side to boil over. After all, he was forced to sit out the first two group stage matches after being suspended for kicking an opponent in the last qualifier.

But Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon said: "He's the driving force of their team."

To stifle Italy's flair, Hodgson has stressed the need to remained disciplined just like in the previous five unbeaten matches since he took charge.

"The particular challenge with Italy is in the midfield area where they have a lot of very gifted and experienced players," Hodgson said. "Players who are technically good on the ball."

Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker could have a busy night in the Ukrainian capital shackling Andrea Pirlo, the passing and set piece maestro.

"We'll make certain the wide players won't get themselves too wide to leave gaps to the side of our central midfield players, and one of the two front players will drop a bit deeper to avoid the two central ones being dragged forward," said Hodgson, who worked with Pirlo at Inter Milan.

While England has no injury problems, Italy on Sunday could sorely miss top defender Giorgio Chiellini, whose tournament could be over due to a leg injury.

That isn't concerning another defender, Leonardo Bonucci, too much.

"From the play shown thus far we can say that Italy is stronger than England," he said. "But other factors come into play on the pitch, such as ruthlessness and the desire to win, which we don't lack."
