Kowloon Cricket Club took advantage of the internecine between the two leading men?s teams, Kowloon Bowling Green Club and Indian Recreation Club, to move to the top of the Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Association Premier League Division One last weekend, June 1. This is the first time KCC has occupied pole position since they last won the league in 2009.

While a number of teams are still catching up with games that were postponed by the wet weather in the last two weeks, all league matches were fortunate enough to proceed as scheduled on the weekend, as Mother Nature showed sympathy and allowed the sun to show its face in the afternoon. Heavy rain duly resumed after the completion of most of the games, but this time it did not really impact the already congested fixture.

The defending champion, KBGC, travelled to second-placed IRC in the search of maximum points. The KBGC rink skipped by Hong Kong international Lee Ka Ho did not face much resistance from JS Dhillon and opened up a lead of 11:0 after seven ends. The game eventually finished at 22:12.

National Singles champion Stanley Lai skipped another KBGC rink and led the match against APS Grewal until the 11th end. Lai lost six shots on the 12th end and it was all downhill for him from there. He lost a further six shots in the following three ends and at the end the game finished 19:13.

It was a much tighter affair between Raymond Ho, the bowler of the year who plays for KBGC and KC Ching of IRC. Ho led 9:0 after just five ends, but Ching took eight shots from the following three ends. The seesawing situation lasted until the last end when Ching was holding a one point advantage. Ho?s team played a brilliant shot to draw the game.

With better accumulated shots, KBGC won the game 5:3. However, their loss of three points allowed KCC?who was level on point, but with an inferior shot difference before the match?to take full advantage by beating Hong Kong Football Club 8:0 at home. KCC now lead KBGC by three points, but have played one game more. IRC is a point behind KBGC.

Meanwhile, the Police team bounced back with two consecutive victories in the last two weeks and moved up to seventh.
