Is thoroughbred racing cruelty a scam?!

Much debating has been done the last few years on thoroughbred racing cruelty. After working in this business for many years, at least one voice needs to be aired on the subject.

Many organizations and some persons are eager to get in the conversation on whether or not there even exist a thoroughbred racing cruelty. Either ways, this whole debate shed negative shadows over a superb sport.

How can they make such claims about thoroughbred racing cruelty when they obviously have no idea?

Owning a race horse is not cheap as testified my long time owner Bo Derek. Whether the horses do well or not in the afternoon races, they still get all they need. The care, the veterinary tending, the food, and so forth. The care is the same and so are the costs. Is that what is meant as thoroughbred racing cruelty?

It gives little authority to make claims on thoroughbred racing cruelty when you haven't even been in the industry, not even took the time to get up one single morning to walk down to the backside and see for yourself. The horses that are stabled at a race track gets taken out every day (even if they don't go to the track, they get to go out), bathed, fed, any veterinary care needed is taken care of as many veterinarians work on the grounds. They have better care than the people who care for them.

What about the horses' care takers? These people are people who are passionate about what they do. They live in close proximity to their horses. Commonly in small rooms in the barns themselves. The work many and long hours with low pay. It's more of a lifestyle than a employment for them. Their situation might make for a good argument of thoroughbred racing cruelty.

If there is thoroughbred racing cruelty, it is not on the race track itself. However, ever wondered what happens to the horses once their racing career is over? Well, some go back to the breeding shed and some even find great homes. Others are not so lucky. When money is short, paying to feed a horse might not be on top of the list of bills to be paid. This is not apply to just ex race horses, but recreational animals in general. How come all these organizations who put so much time and money in to dragging down a perfectly fine sport, don't use their resources were needed?

There is a need to understand that thoroughbred horse racing is an ancient and beautiful sport. Have you ever been to a racetrack and seen these gorgeous animals being loaded in the gates? Horses who are able to stand still in one minute just to explode out in full speed the next. Watching the enormously incredible animals move at high speeds? That's what they are bred and trained to do and they do in spectacular fashion. It is truly breath taking and far away from any thoroughbred racing cruelty.

Is thoroughbred racing cruelty just a scam? It will be difficult to find any mistreatment of horses who are stabled at a race track. You are welcome to argue how giving horses utter most care is related to any form of cruelty.
